Home Meat Market Why You Should Eat More Pork!

Why You Should Eat More Pork!

I think everyone should eat more pork, and there are plenty of reasons why.

First of all, pork is insanely cheap.  I was in the supermarket the other day, and was able to buy pork tenderloins for only $3.00!!!!!!!   Do you realize how ridiculous that is?  Pork tenderloin is the cream of the crop when it comes to pork, as it is the equivalent of beef's filet mignon.  This particular loin would feed about 3 people, which makes it cost a $1 per person.   Believe me, you will never find a filet mignon for $1.   Why was the tenderloin so cheap?  No, it was not expired.  No, it was not some huge sale.   Pork prices have declined an insane amount ever since the H1N1 flu arrived (once known as swine flu).  Although eating pork has nothing to do with the swine flu, people are ill-informed, or just paranoid, and have basically stopped eating pork.  This caused prices to drop an enormous amount.

If the ridiculously low prices aren't enough to convince you to eat pork, you may want to consider its health value.  Pork loin and pork tenderloin are much leaner and lower in cholesterol than beef.   These cuts are as healthy as chicken breast in many ways, and in some ways, more healthy.  Stick to these cuts instead of fatty beef cuts, and you will be doing a very good thing for both your health and your waistline.

A third and final reason, why you should eat more pork is it is downright delicious!  There are many different cuts to choose from, but perhaps the best thing about pork is it can be used in so many different ways, and with so many flavors.  Beef is a very strong flavor, as opposed to pork.  This makes pork easy to combine with just about anything.   For example, sweet berry or port sauces, spicy or sweet mustard sauces, with sage, basil, or thyme, garlic orange, and even coffee!!  It can also be paired with many different wines, from whites to medium bodied reds.

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."
